Jane put the magazine aside and spared Rebecca a stern look, gently rubbing her abdomen in the process. “I’m pregnant, Rebecca. And… Benjamin is the dad.”

Rebecca froze. Her bright little inner world she had recently built owing to Benjamin now felt like it was crumbling down. But then she blurted. “A-Are you saying it’s been more than three months since you two had… met? I don’t believe it.”

“Whether you believe it or not, that’s the truth,” Jane’s expression stayed the same. She kept rubbing her abdomen in neat circles. “Benjamin is the father of the baby in my belly.”

“Nonsense!” Rebecca grew so angry she spat some saliva out.

“No. It makes perfect sense if you think about it,” Jane added. “Do you remember the time you first introduced Benjamin to me in a car? We actually met the very next day without you knowing, and then we… did that thing.”
