Rebecca wasn’t crestfallen, but she definitely was disenchanted by Benjamin, given how he had left her at the dining table. The disappointment when something didn’t go as she had hoped wasn’t new to her, but it still tasted sour.

She went to her room, packed the necessary things in her purse, and was coming out.

Delle was at the door. “Ma’am, can you give your car keys? Your father is asking for it.”

“My dad?” Rebecca was quite surprised. Jacob had never asked for her car before, so she couldn’t understand why he was asking for it now.
