"Why didn't you say that earlier?" Avery sniffled and said bitterly, "I can't keep calm and think about others like I used to."

"Do you regret it?" Mike asked. "If you'd told him the truth earlier, maybe—"

"If I told him the truth earlier, things would go another way," Avery said. "But what if it ended up getting even worse? Finding him is better than just sitting here regretting everything."
