“I’ll be back. Just obey, be good, and I’ll reward you,” I finally let him go, throwing in a bribe for good measure.

It hurt to see the redness on his chin. I wanted to heal him, but I couldn’t give in now—or my words would lose all meaning.

I turned my back and left the room, slamming the door behind me. I stood in the hallway for a few seconds, gripping the doorknob.

I could feel him on the other side, like he was silently screaming for me. I closed my eyes and slipped on Electra’s mask.

Today was going to be treacherous and important—I couldn’t fail.

Before going downstairs, I secured the door and the room with a simple spell. I’d know if anyone went in or out.

If Silas disobeyed me, I’d find out. If anyone else entered here, I’d know that too.
