It had only been a few days since their divorce, and she had thought Craig might spend a few years in prison. But now, the punishment he faced seemed worse than prison.

"Elly!" Craig flicked the cigarette, grinding it with his foot.

He gnashed his teeth and said, "People say being married even for a day means a lifetime of commitment! Doesn't the past mean anything to you? Our kids still call me Dad! You want me like this?!"

Setbacks had knocked him down, but he thought about Elly eventually.

Elly didn't know how Craig had found her, but his sorry state wouldn't move her.

She retorted, "Me wanting you like this? Who caused all these problems? If you'd taken care of our family instead of fooling around, I might've waited even if you were in prison. And now you want my help? Never! Leave now, or I'll call the cops!"
