Encounter and truth

On the other side of the screen, Lexy forgot her cell phone and her boss and focused on taking a shower and dressing lightly to shut herself up in her home kitchen.

She made roasted potatoes and stuffed them with cream cheese and onion, pepper, and salt. While sealing the meat on an electric iron that her father had given her last Christmas; she drank wine, seeking to quench the jumble of guts she had had since the interview.

She tucked her hair behind her ears a few times and drank more wine while listening to the laughter of her parents and fiancé, who listened attentively to the amusing stories of her youthful grandmother.

She sat down at the table when she thought everything was in order and took off the apron that encased her waist to fit it on her legs.

She poured herself a fourth glass of wine and chatted casually while her grandmother was her primary listener and counselor.

"Oh, my dear, if I had known you would bring the wedding forward, I would not have gone to spend all my money in Australia," the grandmother replied, hearing that her granddaughter had found work only to pay for her wedding.

"No, Grandma, it doesn't matter, everything is in order, I start on Monday in Open Global," she said, mentioning the renowned telecommunications company, and she didn't worry when she heard the loud ringing of her house.

Her father got up from his chair and walked to the door and it was at that moment that Lexy found some seconds of relief. She was invaded with so many questions. She was not ready to accept that she would marry in three months.

She was beginning to worry about her future with the lazy man she had become engaged to.

"Lexy, you have a visitor," her father spoke from the living room and Lexy turned in the chair, confused and worried.

Who could it be if her friends didn't live in the city?

She got up from the chair with doubts and took the kitchen apron in her hands, nervous about that strange change in routine, the one she did not usually frequent.

She bit her lower lip as her eyes met her new boss and she opened the front door to go out and closed it behind her in fear, longing for Esteban not to find out who was visiting her on the other side of the door.

The man looked ten times better in the evening light, and the last rays of the sun favored him entirely.

He carried a wine in his hands and next to him, a brown box accompanied him.

"What are you doing here?!" she asked, appalled.

Joseph was even more confused. Was she bipolar or suffering from short-term memory?

"You invited me, Miss Bouvier," he replied, and took advantage of the girl's carelessness to take a detailed look from head to toe.

She had her hair down and her red cheeks flattered her. A fitted, low-cut, over-the-knee dress left him floating, and the thinness of the fabric showed him those details he so longed to explore.

"I didn't want to invite you, sir, it was a mistake. I just wanted to be polite to you”. She answered and looked out the window, taking care that Esteban was still in his chair and in front of his plate of food.

"What I wanted to say was that I didn't want to see you around here," she said and became serious.

She dared to look him in the face.

Storni laughed and with his free hand took his cell phone to check the email in front of her, trying not to feel so silly after Bouvier's second rejection.

"I'm going to read what you answered to me, so you don't think I'm crazy," he scoffed and winked at her. Lexy frowned, scared.

“Mr. Storni, I live in a low area, I do not think you want to bring me the uniform home", he read the text and answered: "No, Miss Bouvier, I do not do home deliveries, that is what our junior does," he explained, and Lexy blushed. “You would be welcome to dine with us, my grandmother has just returned from Australia, and it would be fun to have you at the table.”

He read again and Lexy touched her cheeks with stress. “Here you are inviting me, Miss Bouvier...”

"And you take it seriously?!" She screeched in anger, almost on the verge of losing her mind.

"I was only polite to you, Miss Bouvier; also, you gave me the specific details of your house." He said, annoyed.

"I was courteous, Mr. Storni, I don't think...!" She wanted to say something but fell silent at the sound of her fiancé's voice.

And while Joseph hoped to meet the man who would take Lexy to the altar and assess his competence, the girl acted in an unconventional way, even in the eyes of her boss.

She caught his hand and pulled him around the property, pushing him out of the entrance of the place.

“Shut up!” She said reluctantly and showed him an alternate path that led to the backyard.

"Why are we hiding?" He dared to ask and contained a malicious smile by the privacy and darkness that the place offered them.

She kept holding him hand and only that contact made him want to do something wrong.

"Because you are very handsome and my fiancé is very dramatic," she replied, and was alarmed to understand what she had said. “No, no, no!” She bellowed afterwards and turned to face him. “I mean, you are very young, he can see you as a competition." She corrected.

Storni stifled a smile and grew closer to her as they hid in the backyard of Lexy's property and sneakily brushed his leg on her rear, cheeky and impatient.

A little perverted.

The anxiety that overcame Lexy did not allow her to feel the friction that her boss had just dedicated to her, but she was aware that she was touching his hand and that the man did not oppose it.

"Look, Mister Storni, I don't want any problems, I already have enough with the arrival of my grandmother," she muttered, head down, and released her hand to face him. “My fiancé will leave after dinner, if you like, you can stay so we can talk about the Risk Policy, but you cannot accompany us at dinner, he is a little jealous,” she confessed, knowing that she was dancing burlesque in the flames of a big fire.

A fire in which she was going to end up very burned.

Storni doubted how to respond, and it was not a natural part of him to wait for a woman, much less be served as a second course.

"Let's find Anne, she is nicer and does not make us wait." His conscience told him, and Storni sighed, knowing the truth.

"Miss Bouvier, I would love to stay, but I have a meeting at eight," he justified and handed him the bottle of wine that he was still holding in his hands.

"I can't accept it," she said sadly. "I couldn't explain this gift to my family, it would be a problem for me, sir." She added.

"A problem?" Storni asked and took a couple of steps towards her, trying to break the tranquility that the young woman conveyed to him.

"I would love for him to stay, but Esteban would cut me into pieces and feed his fish with me." She thought silently.

"Thanks for coming, see you Monday at eight." She said and braced herself by remembering that she had a boyfriend whom she loved and respected.

"Every day of your life? Are you sure, Lexy?" Her conscience inverted her, making her doubt as every day.

They said goodbye without even looking at each other and after giving her a couple of explanations regarding the brown cardboard box he had left at the front door of her house, Joseph left, scared by his actions, those immature and hasty decisions he had made without thinking in his position in the company, that position that it had taken him work and effort to reach and that he wanted to keep for many more years.

If the Commercial Advisors found out about his occurrences -visiting an employee after hours- he would have problems, serious problems, but even so, fearing for his job and financial stability, curiosity dominated him above all else. He sat and hid in his modern car, under the darkness of a tall oak tree that beautified the sidewalk of the house of Lexy Bouvier, his new secretary.

"New and sensual employee, new whim".

He tried his conscience, echoing between his thoughts.

"Thank God they don't last long."

He kept thinking, but all the noise stopped when, at nine o'clock at night, Lexy appeared at the door and behind her, a thin boy with long hair accompanied her.

He peeked over the wheel and watched intently and without blinking every action of the couple in front of him.

The tension was between them and although Storni waited for some sexual tension, he ran into a discussion that he did not like and alarmed him about the insecurities of the girl he had just hired.

The bland boy screamed angrily, showing that he had power over her and after that, his thinness and lack of muscle were eroded when he grabbed her by the shoulders and gave her a couple of violent jerks.

Storni salivated and squeezed the leather on the steering wheel in his hands, furious at what he saw.

The sound of the leather against his hands was heard inside the car, more when Lexy covered her face to cry, embarrassed by something that he could not understand.

Despite the distance, he heard her delicate voice imploring forgiveness and it all ended when the young man planted a dry slap between her cheek and mouth.

It was all over for him, who rushed over and opened the car door to get off, to face the situation, but his cowardly conscience stopped him before he stepped on the sidewalk beside him.

"You can't go down, you had a meeting at eight, remember? How are you going to explain that you're still here?”

It was the first thing he heard, and he ducked as the boy walked beside him, who had left Lexy alone and heartbroken at the entrance to her warm home.

"No woman wants an insistent boss."

He listened and looked at Lexy, who touched the affected area with her fingertips and sobbed into her position.

"I ran out of fuel,"

he answered himself and got out of his car, ready to face Lexy.

But the girl turned around without seeing him and ran towards her house; she closed a wooden fence behind her, and closed any chance that he could help her, and she left him with a bitter drink that he would have to endure until Monday.
