MANDY
Since Mr. Jackson told Mandy´s mom, Carol Hill, that she shouldn´t just ignore the girl´s gift for math, she agreed with her participation in a special program for super abled kids. Mainly because it was local.
According to special capacities, these youngsters were sent to the real world to interact and find out a way to leave an impression on the world.
Kids that painted, for example, were sent to museums, where they could learn from recognized masters and even expose their works at small events specially organized and sponsored by the program.
In Mandy´s case, she went to obtain experience in an environment where numbers were essencial. The finance world.
Other career options would be to teach, following academic life. But she had to try one possibility at a time. So, Mr. Jackson, her teacher, had arranged for her to be an intern at his friend´s company.
And here she was for her first day at ‘Billions Investing Group.’
But it was nothing like she expected. She hadn´t seen a single number yet. Mr. Jackson had warned her that her immediate boss, the CEO of this company acted a little out of standards. But this was ridiculous.
A group of ten people, including Mr. Boss, were gathered at his room, moving around in slow motion. His voice commanded their attitude. And there was Mandy among them.
“Let´s walk very slowly around this room. Let´s beat time. Let´s smash the pressures and stress in the workplace.”
MANDY POV
Well, I think that we are not only beating but killing the time. But come to think of it, in the office, the hours are his to kill. He signs the paychecks, after all.
After a few moments I just couldn´t resist the temptation to move my arms as well. I did it very slowly, in the shape of a butterfly wing.
Mr. Boss stopped moving. He just looked at me and it came to my mind that I was going to be fired on my first day.
But he suddenly mirrored me, and we were now two butterflies moving in slow motion.
The other people, so competitive, started moving their arms too.
Some of them, like soldiers, up and down, others doing circles in the air.
It was then, to my own astonishment, that I burst out laughing. I couldn´t hold in anymore. I mean, these men in suits, women in high heels, so sophisticated, acting like children, to say the least.
For a second everybody stopped. Then, Mr. Boss laughed too. All the others joined.
“Now, that´s called creativity. What a good use of simple ideas,” by saying that my boss dismissed us to start the office shores.
I started wondering if he was eccentric or jut crazy.
MR. BOSS POV
So, the new intern had a sense of humor. Great. He expected that from her. According to his researches, the genius minds, super gifted and precocious ones, made the person more vibrant and vivacious.
It said so in a scientific study by Dr. Morris. According to him, these gifted kids show a high capacity of logic reasoning, but they get bored easily.
And it had just happened to Mandy, in the experiment he conducted. She was bored and she resorted to humor.
It was good, because according to these studies, these gifted people, also stood out in originality and sense of humor.
Certaily he thrusted Jackson´s judgement, but it was just as good to confirm that Mandy was a person worth of investing in her future.
MANDY POVSo, it´s Sunday morning and here I am, running in the park with my ninja mom. And it´s more than just a figure of speech. My mom is black belt in many categories of martial arts. Her two favorites are karate and jiu-jitsu.She works as a personal trainer with emphasis in these fights. Anybody would think that the weekends were days of rest for her. No way. They were days of exercise. We had come to terms that I would join her for running on weekends and that was it. Mainly I was kept in good health, but she didn´t force me to like the same things she did.I think nobody works out that hard with such happiness. She jokes and smiles and encourages you naturally. And it´s not an obligation of her job. I mean, when we visit grandpa in his farm on vacation, this woman chops wood. “For the fun of it,” she says.I´m so proud of her. Due to good genes and so much practice of sports she looks amazin
MANDY POVA ninja (Japanese word) was a covert agent or mercenary in feudal Japan. The functions of a ninja included espionage, deception, and surprise attacks.Yes, the dictionary. It describes my mother´s attitude perfectly. Imagine, to attack Mark out of the blue and have him restrained on the floor like a lowlife or something.Auch, it pains me how much I´m embarrassed. It was all going so well before the interference. He arrived punctually at 5pm, after his swim practice. We were at the dinner table working on some algebra problems when he asked for water. From the kitchen I heard the turmoil. Not only Mark was thown to the floor with my mother on top of him, but also some table ornaments flew everywhere and smashed noisily, making me rush to the room.“Mom, stop that!” I screamed. She came to her senses immediately and let go of h
MANDY POVSo, another experiment happens at my internship. I´ve been going there for a couple of weeks now. The schedule arranged is that I go on Fridays full period and on Saturdays, only mornings. It was decided so, because I won´t miss many classes this way. On Fridays we have two classes of math at school and the rest are arts and reading, which I can do at home. On Saturdays the school is closed, so I don´t have classes to worry about catching up.My work at Billions Investment Group is very exciting for me.I´m in charge of calculating and estimating gains and losses of companies the group is thinking about acquiring.Mr. Boss also gave me a special project that is the apple of his eyes. It involves investments in the Stock Market and I have to discern among choices, and of course estimate, in short, do the math. George said that it shows that Mr. Boss has confidence in me.And now, here I am at the shopping center, wi
MANDY POV“Mandy, you can´t back out on our plans,” Steph was complaining with me during lunch. “We said that we were going to watch the swim practices and we never went. Enough excuses, please.”“I know Steph. I really intended to go, but Mark and I are kind of avoinding each other since the fiasco at my house. It´s just too embarrassing.”“Nonsense. You can´t just freeze your life because of that. Or mine. Please.”When she was right, she was. I would have to overcome my fears of seeing Mark. Because the truth is that I miss the proximity that had started to happen between us.“I´ll tell Charlie that we are going and so he will give us a ride home afterwards.”I sent a text to my mom, updating her on the new plans. Because I was going to arrive home later than usual she answered me that she would take the time to do some grocery shopping. I ordered some foo
MARKMark parked the car in a calm street beside the municipal park and they had a talk.“I was avoiding you, Mandy, because I was ashamed. To be restrained by a woman and unable to escape… I imagined that you thought I was weak.”“Oh, Mark, sorry. You couldn´t have known… It didn´t even pass through my mind that you were weak…”“How come?”“You see, my mother is a martial arts master. She is black belt in many categories, and I mean, many…”“Really! I´m impressed now.”“You are allowed to be. See, a bull couldn´t have escaped her…”He gave a small laugh now, starting to be at ease.“Mark, I´m sorry that I didn´t explain all that to you sooner.”“It´s just that she is a normal size woman. I mean, I´m taller than your mom, and she paralyzed me.&
Mandy POVNow that we were back at studying together, I saw Mark almost everyday. Because on Mondays and Wednesdays he came to our house and Tuesdays and Thursdays, Steph and I watched the swim practice.I have to confess that by now I´m completely in love with him. I think he likes me too, by the way he looks at me, and how sweet he is. But then it is his nature. I was so surprised when he hugged my mom after the way she had treated him. He saw the good in her. And that is because he is good himself. I´m starting to know him better and I dive in every aspect of his personality. I discovered that when you start to love somebody, you still don´t know them completely. It´s their actions in the everyday basis that confirm your love. And make your love grow and strengthen.“Mandy, hurry up or we will be late.” Steph was going with me to talk to the teacher, because we were always together at school. So, I got my shinning package,
Back to nowadays MANDY POV Okay. So now I have a driver that takes me everywhere in a limo. When the two crazy persons in my life could agree on something it was that I should take the limo. Mr. Boss said that he felt better if Trevor, his driver, kept an eye on me. Just temporarily, he assured me. Because the doctor told us I should be in observation for a couple of days. My mother considered it a great idea. In fact, if she could, she would carry me in her arms everywhere, after this accident. The limo and the driver were the closest solutions she had for her wish. The kids at school think that I won the lottery or something. I just ignore the whispers. If I deny it, they´ll just extend the gossip. Steph is enjoying this so much. She made like a hundred photos of us in the limo for her I*******m account. And her followers increased by the thousands. It seems to be true that people love limousines. Trevor is so patien
MANDY I saw no reason to cancel my afternoon studies with Mark. I was feeling completely all right, but he showed such care for me. He closed the books and said that I should rest. I agreed but asked him to stay and chat. He accepted and asked me to tell him everything in detail. We were enjoying each other when my mom interrupted gently. “Mandy, just a quick question. Do you prefer candles or flowers for the centerpieces at your party?” “Flowers, mom.” “Ok. Later you´ll choose which ones. We have plenty of time. It is just that some suppliers ask for a deposit and I want to make sure that everything will be perfect. By the way Mark, you are already invited.” “Is there going to be a party?” “Her sweet sixteen. It will be at the 5 Comets Hotel. Their ballroom is beautiful.” Then mom leaves, texting on her phone. I´m a little embarrassed to be the center of attention. Again. “Do you want me to go, Mandy?" He senses I was
